What an Honor

Thank you to the crew and all who helped guide me along the way. Pal Tiya is amazing." - Barbara Goff, CO

The Beginning
Barbara Goff from Colorado, has been a potter for over 50 years. Recently she was tasked with making a large sculpture for Rachel Sager's The Ruins Project.

Barbara was initially going to make this piece using clay, but soon relalized that it would be too large for a kiln and she would have to sculpt it in pieces. A friend, who had already made a life-sized bear for a local library using Pal Tiya Premium sculpting medium, told her about the product.
This is Barbara's first sculpture using Pal Tiya Premium.

She says, "I built 5-6 other full size armatures but posture and presence was not right. One night woke up with a picture/image in my head of how to make the form. The process came thru some spiritual guidance. The Ruins Project is where paying tribute : Honoring the lives of miners, their children and families who were deeply touched with trauma and loss in mining industry. I realized the sculpture could not be an iconic bald Eagle but one who is bowing with respect and honor for guests coming now and for those lost. She had to actually look at the faces of those visiting the Project. After this I simply allowed the guidance to direct each part of process."

Armature
The foil core must be compressed enough to support the scratch coat without collapsing. It is not necessary to compress the foil to the consistency of granite! Just firm enough to keep the shape and smooth enough not to waste Pal Tiya Premium by filling up a craggly surface.

Barbara says, "The ‘pant legs’ will allow for a tilt as this female will be “looking down w an “eagle eye” from her 7’ perch on the ledge at the threshold of The Project. She will be looking towards the nearby river. But will peer down towards visitors. I see in my minds eye. A bit of playfulness."

Stainless steel threaded rods are the gold standard. They are steel and don't rust. It comes in 3/16 and 1/8 inch thicknesses. Galvanized is the next best version. To hear how we connect the Pal Tiya Premium directly to steel when buiding larger pieces please watch this part of this video.
